The Hägglunds CCE400 is a direct-drive, low-speed, high-torque radial piston hydraulic motor. "Direct drive" is the key phrase here — instead of running a hydraulic motor through a gearbox to get usable torque at low shaft speeds, the CCE400 delivers full torque straight off its output shaft, from zero rpm, with no gear reduction stage in between.
Where the CCE400 Gets Used
The CCE400 shows up wherever you need serious torque at low, controllable speed, in a package that can take abuse. A few concrete examples:
Anchor handling and mooring winches. A vessel paying out or hauling in mooring line under load needs a motor that can hold torque at a dead stop and respond instantly if the line load spikes. Direct-drive radial piston motors like the CCE400 eliminate the gearbox failure point that would otherwise be the weak link in that chain.
Deck cranes and offshore crane slew drives. Slewing a crane under load demands smooth, precise torque control at low rpm — exactly the CCE400's operating window — plus the shock tolerance to handle a sudden gust or a load snagging.
Trawl winches on fishing vessels. Continuous duty, variable load, and constant exposure to spray make this a textbook CB-series application; the sealed, direct-drive design keeps saltwater and grit away from gear teeth that would otherwise wear quickly.
Shipboard cargo handling and hatch cover drives. Slow, high-torque, repetitive-cycle applications where reliability over tens of thousands of operating hours matters more than raw speed.
Offshore construction and pipe-lay equipment. Tensioners, reel drives, and similar systems where torque needs to ramp instantly and hold steady under load.
Installation and Operating Considerations
A few things that matter in practice, not just on the datasheet:
Oil viscosity and case temperature. Like other Hägglunds CCE motors, the CCE400 is rated for a working oil viscosity range and a case temperature ceiling — running outside that window (thick, cold oil at startup, or an overheated case in continuous high-load service) shortens bearing life well below the rated 40,000 hours. Cooling and filtration on the case drain circuit deserve real attention at the design stage, not as an afterthought.
Charge pressure. Because the motor's torque calculation and rated life curves assume a specific charge pressure (commonly 15 bar in Rexroth's published data), undersizing the charge pump or restricting the drain line will both reduce actual torque output and accelerate wear.
Mounting and external loads. The CCE400 can be shaft-mounted with a torque arm, flange-mounted, or fitted with pinion drive arrangements, but each mounting method has its own permissible radial and axial load limits. Marine installations in particular need to account for vibration and shock loading beyond the nominal duty cycle — this is one of the more common areas where field failures trace back to an installation detail rather than the motor itself.
Corrosion protection selection. Standard C3 painting is fine for a sheltered machinery room; anything on an exposed deck or in a salt-laden atmosphere should be specified as C5M from the outset rather than retrofitted later.
